- GDESC:雌雄同型。虹膜黃色。嘴欖黑色。跗蹠被羽，趾裸露呈灰褐色。臺灣特有亞種個體間羽色略有差異，典型羽色為褐色、並具喑褐及灰黃斑紋，少數個體羽色偏紅或紅褐，但頭上均具稍短的角狀耳羽。顏盤褐色，輪廓不明顯，灰白眉紋較短、僅止於眼後(未及角羽)。翼暗褐，肩羽下有一列白斑，尾羽暗褐、具淺褐色橫斑。腹面黃褐、具黑褐色橫斑及矢狀軸斑，上胸色較深。幼鳥羽色淡、整體污灰略帶黃褐色，角狀耳羽較短，身上暗色斑紋模糊不明顯，隨年齡增長羽色漸深，斑紋漸明顯。
  棲地介紹：茂盛密林及村莊附近空曠草原或平原。
