- GDESC:雌雄相異。虹膜暗褐色。嘴鉛黑略下彎，雌鳥下嘴基色較淡。腳黑色。臺灣特有亞種雄鳥頭及背深藍、具金屬光澤，臉、翼及尾羽色澤較黑。喉至上胸橙紅色，故名。胸以下淡皮黃，胸、腹中央有1條藍黑色粗縱帶。雌鳥似綠啄花，但頭及體背略沾藍色，尤以肩部較明顯。腹面較黃，脇略帶藍色。幼鳥羽色黯淡，嘴基橙紅，體上藍色較少或無。近似種綠啄花嘴較細長而彎，體背綠色較濃、無任何藍色，腹面較污白。海拔分布較低。性活潑。常三五隻和小型鳥混群活動。喜食大樹上寄生植物漿果，因果實具黏性，常可見以尾摩擦樹枝動作。發出短促較高音「搭、搭、搭」叫聲。繁殖期雄鳥發出尖銳金屬音。
  棲地介紹：中海拔原始闊葉樹林或溪邊樹叢，秋冬季降遷於低海拔較溫暖樹林。
