  型態：是鹿科家族中唯一雄鹿與雌鹿皆具有鹿角的成員，鹿角分叉繁複。馴鹿的鹿蹄寬闊，以適應雪地生活。毛色隨季節與亞種而異，主要有褐色、灰白色，腹部頸部以及蹄部以上則常為白色。
  
  生態：最著名的行為是季節性的大規模遷徙，單一個體一年移動距離可超過三千公里，也因為這樣的生態習性導致馴鹿會受到人類開發的影響，不管是破壞植被，或是建立物理阻隔都會干擾其遷徙行為。馴鹿分布於北半球溫帶至極地，利用棲地廣泛，從森林至苔原皆有族群分布，且其取食的植物種類多元，以地衣、草與灌木為主食。馴鹿成體的存活率高，可達80-90%，野外壽命約為12-16歲。馴鹿為一夫多妻制，由雄鹿掌控一群雌鹿，而該群雌鹿的發情期會高度同步化。母鹿一次通常產下一隻幼獸，幼獸存活率視當年氣候以及食物充足程度而異，波動大。

  標本資訊：本標本為馴鹿角的標本，含兩隻角以及部分頭蓋骨，角長45公分。整體標本狀態良好完整。
