    • GDESC:保育等級：International Union for Conservation of Nature紅皮書中屬易危物種(Vulnerable species)類別。

      型態：中文俗名海牛、美人魚。體型大呈紡錘狀，前肢短，鰭狀，尾鰭近似海豚的Y形尾。儒艮頸部短，皮膚光滑，呈褐色至暗灰色，體表毛髮稀疏。雌性儒艮有乳房一對，位於前肢基部後方；無外耳，皮膚表面僅能見極小耳孔。鼻孔位於吻部頂端，周圍有皮膜可在潛水時蓋住鼻孔。

      生態：儒艮為草食性海生哺乳類動物，以海床底部多種海生植物為食，主要分佈熱帶及亞熱帶有豐富海草生長的地區，在全球分佈區域並不連續，偶有進入淡水區域。

      形質：初生時約1.15公尺，體重約25-35公斤，成年後最大身長可至4.16公尺，但很少超過3公尺，體重可達1016公斤。一般以雌性體型較大。

      標本資訊：本件標本於1937年3月25日採集。原為菲律賓漁民於菲律賓海域捕獲，由日本學者青木文一郎在台灣解剖製作。
