Introduction:The Industrial Revolution began first in the UK in 1840, providing new momentum for the country’s manufacturing industry and supply chain. While the economy of Europe started to recover, J. Collier & Sons, was established in the UK in 1852.

The company had a period of stable growth during the early development of the sewing machine industry. However, it faced a severe challenge of survival after the outbreak of WWI. Many places in the UK were bombarded and destroyed during the war, including the company’s factory site. As a result, the company had to commission The Jones Sewing Machine Company, whose factory was unaffected and still running, to manufacture sewing machines for it. These sewing machines were still labeled with the brand of J. Collier & Sons, marking the beginning of “OEM” production in the sewing machine industry.
