Introduction:The Tanimbar Corella is a specie of cockatoo endemic to the Tanimbar islands of Indonesia; it is one of the crested cockatoos. Among all cockatoos, it is the smallest — around 32cm tall, with white feathers, including its crest. Tanimbar Corella is also one of the best imitators of human speech among all the cockatoos, and it can easily be taught a variety of tricks and skills.
Tanimbar Corellas are friendly and sociable, often making friends with other bird species and playing together. They eat seeds, nuts, berries, sprouts, flowers and insects, and sometimes will go to farms looking for food, particularly fond of corn. It typically builds nests in tree holes, and both the cock and hen raise offspring together. Usually around 10 weeks after hatch, the chicks with fully grown feathers would leave the nest.
The species is at Near Threatened status due to deforestation and the bird trade. The Tanimbar Corellas was listed on Appendix I of the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), also known as the Washington Convention, in 1992.
