Introduction:In 1782, the famous violinist Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755-1824) amazed the audience at his first debut in Paris by performing on a Stradivari violin, and subsequently brought newfound fame to Stadivari across Europe. Even in the 20th century, Anne Sophie-Mutter (1963-), the famous violinist, said that “when one holds a Stradivari violin, even a tender touch can arouse enormous passion”.

The immortal Antonio Stradivari is generally considered as the greatest master in violin-making history. He evaluated the art of violin-making to the highest level, such as the forms, propositions, varnish and tonal quality, which has become a model for later generations of violin makers to follow.

This violin has gorgeous flames and the wood is of supreme quality. The ribs are finely figured, and the scroll is curled with flames from medium to broad width. With its exuberant orange-brown varnish and a celestial tone, this violin is a splendid, dazzling work of art. In 1905, the legendary British violinist Marie Hall (1884-1956) bought this violin once owned by Viotti from a dealer, this violin was thus named “Marie Hall-Viotti”. “In all aspects, this violin is a remarkable paradigm in the history of violin”, as the London-based instrument firm W. E. Hill & Sons put it in their publication. “The tonal quality of Marie Hall-Viotti is perfect”, The Strad wrote, “undoubtedly, comparing with any other renowned Stradivari violins; Marie Hall-Viotti is the most glorious example.”
