Description:Yeh Shih-tao is of mixed Siraya and Han descent. According to Yeh, one of his ancestors moved to Tainan alone to find employment but somehow became a millionaire, paving the way for the Yeh family to become influential during the Japanese rule. Yeh’s grandmother lost her husband in the early years of her marriage and had to make a living by selling off land. She had no children, so she adopted a son who later became Yeh’s father and named him Yeh Tung-li. Even though the family was in decline, Yeh’s grandmother still maintained the facade of wealth. Yeh’s father received a Japanese education and married a wife from a prestigious family. During the Japanese rule, Yeh was able to lead a comfortable life as a landlord.

摘要:葉石濤的祖先是西拉雅與漢人的混血，其中一位隻身來到台南打拼，成了大富翁，奠定葉家的根基。葉家龐大的家族，在日治時代均接受一定的教育地方上素有名望。葉石濤的內媽早年喪夫，靠賣地生活，膝下無子，收養葉石濤的父親取名叫葉敦禮。即使家道中落，葉家還是維持大戶人家的風範，葉父接受過日式教育，娶的妻子也是名望之後。在日治時代，葉石濤基本上是生活在一個保守安逸的地主之家。（文/林世翔）
