文物描述:1. 本物件收錄在《美國艦隊遠征中國海域和日本記》（Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan, Performed in the Years 1852, 1853, and 1854, under the Command of Commodore M.C. Perry, United States Navy），這是在美國政府的命令下，由海軍准將馬修裴利（Matthew Calbraith Perry）作指揮，命令各個部下於各區域勘察後撰寫的報告書，經蒐集及編輯出版，全書共三冊。
2. 本物件收錄在第二冊的第151頁，是海軍牧師George Jones Chaplain提交准將馬修裴利的一份報告書，寫於1854年7月22日於雞籠碼頭，內容是關於一次探訪雞籠的煤礦區，並附有雞籠煤礦區的分佈圖（第155頁）。
