At the Performing Arts Theatre entrance of Tainan Art Museum Building 2, it stands a piece of public art, created by Israeli artist David Gerstein, the 2016 winner of Taiwan’s Public Art Awards. Good Times consists of a pair of bicycle riders and numerous butterflies. This artwork uses representational sculpture to manifest the concept of reification. In addition, it investigates the harmony relationship between the human and the nature.
Good Times is an artwork about spreading happiness. The happy riders and butterflies spread their lively spirits around the museum and around the neighborhood. With bright, dynamic colors, the artwork captures people’s attention, inviting them to enjoy the immersive atmosphere.
Gerstein, with his distinguished use of bright colors and vivid design, captures happy moments in life, and tells the story of human and nature by representing riders and butterflies. David Gerstein believes that art should be more than inside the exhibition hall—it is a blossom in full bloom, beautiful and full of nutrients, ready to enrich the mind and soul of the audience.
Bicycles represent the eco-friendliness of Tainan City, the riders represent all human beings, and the silhouette of the riders mean that humans should remain humble in the face of Mother Nature.
