This was a tribute presented, on May 28, 1955, by Tokyo homecoming Chinese group on behalf of the overseas Chinese living in Tokyo, Japan. The silver cup, raised on a black wooden base, is engraved on the bowl the celebratory inscriptions "National Savior," a dedication "In celebration of the first anniversary of the presidential inauguration," and on the lower part, "Respectfully, Wu Sicun, the head; Liu Tianlu and Shi Jiamiao, deputy heads; and members of Tokyo overseas Chinese homecoming group."
President Chiang was re-elected to the second term, in 1954, as the second constitutional president of the Republic of China. During this stage, it was an important opportunity for the ROC government to turn the corner, after relocating to Taiwan. On December 3, 1954, the United States and ROC signed the Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty. In January 1955, the United States passed "Taiwan Resolutions" to ensure the safety of Taiwan and Penghu, and before the end of March, announced the decision to defend Kinmen and Matsu. President Chiang announced in April, "I am determined to fight for Kinmen and Matsu to the last man." And overseas Chinese had called or toured to Taiwan to express their supports for the government's decision of ensuring the safety of Kinmen and Matsu and vows of backing the government.
Mr. Liu Tianlu, a Taipei native, was born in 1904, graduated from the Department of Commerce, Nihon University, and engaged in business in Japan. He founded Yongchang Trade Company and Liberty News Agency, among others, and was one of the top ten Chinese enterprises in Japan, becoming a leader of Chinese community. He had served as Standing Committee of Tokyo Branch, KMT, and Chairperson of Japan Research Association for the Three Principles of the People. In Japan, he was praised highly by the Japanese government and the commonalty, and had been received by prime ministers of many sessions. Ex-president Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo had repeatedly met him in recognition of his patriotic, helpful, righteous deeds. After breaking off diplomatic relations between ROC and Japan, he had actively supported Interchange Association and served as Standing Director of the Federation Of Overseas Chinese Associations, President of Japan Region, Grand Alliance for China's Reunification under the Three Principles of the People, and Vice President of Asian People's Anti-Communist League.
