While China was struggling in the middle of the War of Resistance Against Japan in 1941, before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States was still shrouded in isolationism and took measures to avoid political and military conflicts across the oceans, including wars in Asia. However, the Japanese aggression under its Pacific strategy had gradually been threatening European and American colonial interests in Asia, which caused the concerns of the Western powers, while China's indomitable spirit of self-reliance in the resistance war had spread throughout the world. Therefore, LIFE magazine in the June of that year made a detailed report about China's struggle and particularly, gave a three-page special report on Madame Chiang and featured her half-length image over the front cover of the issue, which could be said was a very special treatment.
