臺灣的科學家張逢鏗，應美國國家科學院之聘參加南極探勘工作，於民國四十八年十二月九日將中華民國國旗豎立在南極之唐萊山前，並攝影寄呈蔣中正總統。
照片中可見一望無際的白色冰原上，鮮豔的青天白日滿地紅國旗迎風招展。

F. K. Chang (Zhang, Feng-keng), a scientist from Taiwan, was invited by the United States National Academy of Sciences to participate in an exploration project to Antarctica. On December 9, 1959, Chang erected an ROC flag in front of Toney Mountain and took a picture of it. Later, he mailed the picture to President Chiang Kai-shek.

The picture shows a bright national flag of the ROC fluttering in the breeze on the vast expanse of the dazzling white ice field.
