王南雄(1943-),高雄人,臺灣水墨畫家,自號半農廬主。1962年考上臺灣師範大學美術系,同年榮獲高雄美展第一名。師承於黃君璧,擅以寫實手法描繪農村田園、山水景緻。黃君璧曾讚其作品生動指出:「看他的雲在動,風在動,水在動,這已達到作畫的要領,由靜而動,得來十分不易。」1994年榮獲國家文藝創作獎,受邀於臺北市立美術館、國父紀念館等單位展出。
王南雄喜歡描繪農村與山川等自然景象,不僅是對童年生活之回想,亦是對臺灣土地的關懷。其畫風清雅樸實、用色清雅,深富傳統水墨造境的功力。在紮實的筆墨技巧上,運用拓、印、揉、擦等多樣技法創作山石肌理,賦予畫面活潑意象。山水畫不僅是對景色的單純描寫,而更是畫家自身的關懷投射於景物所呈現的意象。王南雄的作品,經常含蓄地以人物、鹿、水牛、屋舍等富有人文情感的物件作為引介,邀請觀者將中性的景致昇華為人的風景。
此作為畫家在關渡畫室憶華山之景,唐代畫家張璪云:「外師造化,中得心源。」畫家正是透過遊歷經驗得到靈感,向內感悟再造胸中自然。畫面前景低平的山坡接引出中景向上高聳的山壁,由前景連綿中景、依貼於山稜的小徑亦凸顯山勢險峻的張力。作品整體用色清雅,畫家亦不忘在林中添加紅綠,以表現秋景紛陳的意象。(503字)
Wang Nan-Hsiung (1943-), a native of Kaohsiung, is a renowned Taiwanese ink painter, self-titled Master of Ban Nong. He was admitted to the Department of Fine Arts at Taiwan Normal University in 1962 and won first prize in the Kaohsiung Art Exhibition that same year. As a student of Huang Jun-Bi, Wang excels in the realistic depiction of rural and mountainous landscapes. Huang Jun-Bi once praised his work vividly, noting that "watching his clouds, wind and water move brings his paintings to life - a quiet yet vivid essence, a feat not easily achieved. In 1994, Wang received the National Award for Arts and was invited to exhibit his work at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum and the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, among other venues.
Wang Nan-Hsiung enjoys painting rural and natural scenes, reflecting not only his nostalgia for his childhood, but also his concern for the land of Taiwan. His painting style is elegant and unpretentious with a refined use of color, deeply embodying traditional ink painting techniques. He uses various techniques to create textures in his depictions of rocks and mountains, bringing vitality to his paintings. His landscapes are not just simple depictions of scenery, but also projections of the artist's own concerns and emotions. Wang often subtly incorporates human figures, deer, water buffalo, and houses into his works, inviting viewers to transform the neutral landscapes into human-oriented scenes.
This work is a recollection of the scenery of Huashan in his Guandu studio. As the Tang Dynasty painter Zhang Zao said, "Learn from nature and get the source from within". The artist draws inspiration from his travel experiences and internalizes nature in his heart. The painting's foreground of low-lying slopes leads to the towering mountain cliffs in the middle ground, highlighting the mountain's rugged terrain with a small path clinging to the ridges. The overall color scheme of the artwork is elegant and refined, and the artist also adds touches of red and green in the forest to express the varied imagery of the autumn scene.
