To date, he has held many solo exhibitions in the country and has been invited to exhibit in Mainland China and other places.
Hung's modest civil service family could not provide Hung with an art relating education despite his evident artistic talent since childhood. It was not until Hung entered the art department of National Taiwan Normal University that he realized his artist dream. He said, "My most significant influence was Professor Li Kun-Pei, who showed me the humanistic feature of watercolor. Professor Li has chosen to stay away from the mainstream and devote himself to this niche form of art expression.
Since 2003, Hung Tung-Piao shifted from his original style focused on divided abstract expression to landscape sketching. He describes his change should start from the basics as if practicing squats and punches in martial art. Hung depicts Taiwan's mountains, rivers, seas, forests, and clouds with fresh, bright, and transparent brushstrokes in a realistic technique that is poetic and relaxing.
