The stirrer spoons are inscribed with the words "NICKEL SILVER" on the stems, meaning the silver being alloyed with nickel. The entire coffee set were made from the same sort of material.
Currently, there are some marks resembling coffee or water stains left on the stirrer spoons. According to registration records, the stains have been there when the silver plated coffee set was delivered to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. But we have actually interviewed a number of attendants, especially the household personnel, and they all said that the situation was unlikely to happen. When we asked that if the stains were left intentionally as a memorial, attendants also flatly denied such a possibility. In addition, when we interviewed the person responsible for accepting the gifts, he didn't recall any particular impression about the stains and was only doubtful.
