Written by Liu Zi-ying. When the Republic of China withdrew from the United Nations in 1971, President Chiang Kai-shek held an announcement on New Year’s day of 1972. Encouraging the people to be solemn, calm, and unyielding in face of change; as well as cautious in order to overcome the difficulties and challenges the environment will bring.
