劉玉秋，屏東人，台灣水墨畫家。畢業於長榮大學視覺藝術研究所，作品曾獲省展國畫類入選，受國父紀念館典藏，並於該館與中正紀念堂等地展出。
劉玉秋長年從事水墨創作，特別擅長人物畫，並曾鑽研孔學與佛學。此作為2010年個展「論語今繪」其中一幅，該展覽作品多由市井生活出發，藉以抒發勸人訓世之理。70年代，台灣在外交與政治轉變的困境下，興起鄉土主義運動，藝術家回歸對鄉土的關注，水墨畫家亦然，開始汲取本土的描繪題材，如席德進、袁金塔等人。劉玉秋受李奇茂之鼓勵，承續此種風潮，透過自現實生活中提煉創作養分之手法，傳達對鄉土的關愛孺慕之情。
此作描繪城郊市集賣地瓜之場景，全幅皆以寫意筆法完成，成功傳達出台灣風土民情之實況。畫面可分為幾個部分：前景以右前方兩人和烤地瓜的器具為主，描寫頗為詳細；中景以左方鳳梨攤販及其後方（畫面右側）客人自成一格；遠景則有大樹、房屋、小攤位和左方人物，層次分明。畫家有意識地將重色用於前景與中景的主要人物之上，使觀者視線聚焦於這些對象；其餘配件或人物雖亦設色，但較為疏淡；至於樹木與房屋則以純墨畫就，較為簡潔率意。畫家並未使用傳統水墨畫常見的皴法或葉點，而是利用乾濕濃淡等墨色變化，藉以增加畫面整體的活潑感。（507字）

Liu Yu-Chiu, a native of Pingtung, is a Taiwanese ink painter. She holds a master’s degree from the Graduate Institute of Visual Arts at Chang Jung Christian University. Her works have been selected for the Taiwan Provincial Exhibition in the category of Chinese painting and have been collected by the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, where they have also been exhibited alongside displays at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and other venues.

Liu has dedicated many years to ink painting, specializing in figure painting while also delving into Confucian and Buddhist studies. This artwork is part of her 2010 solo exhibition “Illustrating the Analects Today,” a collection largely inspired by everyday life, conveying moral lessons and social reflections. In the 1970s, amid Taiwan’s diplomatic and political transformations, a nativist movement emerged, prompting artists to refocus on local culture. Ink painters, including Hsi Te-Chin and Yuan Chin-Ta, began incorporating native Taiwanese subjects into their works. Encouraged by Li Chi-Mao, Liu Yu-Chiu continued this artistic direction, drawing inspiration from real life to express her deep affection for the land and its people.

This artwork depicts a sweet potato vendor at a suburban market, executed entirely in expressive freehand brushwork, effectively capturing the local customs and atmosphere of Taiwan. The composition can be divided into several sections: The foreground centers on two figures near a roasting apparatus, meticulously detailed; The middle ground features a pineapple vendor on the left and customers behind them on the right, forming a distinct grouping; The background includes a large tree, houses, small stalls, and additional figures, arranged in a layered manner. The artist strategically applies deep colors to the primary figures in the foreground and middle ground, guiding the viewer’s attention to these focal points. Other elements, including secondary figures and objects, are rendered in lighter hues, while trees and buildings are painted solely in ink, creating a simple yet dynamic composition. Unlike traditional ink painting techniques that often employ textured brushstrokes or leaf-dotting methods, Liu instead utilizes variations in ink saturation and dryness, lending the scene a more lively and engaging quality.
