Title:Skilled at the Job

Description:These four slender books (NMTL20060020002~NMTL20060020005) contain signatures and poem titles recorded from Wu Xinrong’s visits to and from other literary people. The books, bound together in one volume with chartreuse, embroidered fabric, are in excellent condition after having been preserved for decades. This is from the personal collection of Dr. Wu Xinrong, the soul of the Salt-zone Poets. Inside is the bookplate “ex libris Zhenying,” which was Xinrong’s own chosen name for himself (zihao). There is no date, but from a book label written by Yu Dafu on the front page of “Refined Pleasure of Poetic Minds,” we can surmise that the starting date was the end of December 1936 when Yu Dafu accepted an invitation to visit Taiwan. In addition, this book contains signatures or illustrations by Guan Yuan(Lin Xiantang), Yang Zhaojia , Geng Nan(Lin Maosheng), Lai Yu(Lai He), Yun Pingsheng(Yang Yunping), Wang Bingnan, Chen Yisong, Chen Shaoxin, Lu Ruohe, Yang Kui, Tateishi Tetsuomi , Chen Fengyuan, Kokubun Naokazu, Wu Yongfu, and Zhang Wenhuan, collecting quotations, information about famous books and pictures of famous people all in one place. The inside pages show that the collection went up to 1942, when we suppose Wu asked his literary friends from the Taiwan Literature and Arts League, Taiwanese New Literature and even the wartime Folklore Taiwan and Taiwanese Literature to give their signatures. The title labels written by Lü Heruo (“Saving Spirit”), Zhang Wenhuan (“Virtue Has Neighbors”), and Wu Yongfu “Determination”) reflected the aspiration of the intelligentsia in a unique age.
