Dimension:66*116.6*2.1cm

Description:Created by Chung Chao-cheng in the early spring of 2005, this calligraphy artwork features the opening paragraphs of Ba Jiao Ta Xia [“At the Foot of the Octagonal Tower”], a novel by Chung, in running script. “The octagonal tower quietly stands like a crane under the blue sky dotted with cotton candy clouds, basking in the floating light of the setting sun. I lay faced down on the grass, my entire body enveloped in its gentle, earthy scent. I look around and gaze at the vast sports field. Not a soul is in sight. An inexplicable sense of solitude and insignificance creeps into my heart. It’s so quiet, so quiet! It feels as if my youthful heart is peeling off layer after layer…. ‘Huh!’ “Umph!’ The shouts of youngsters practicing kendo can be heard from the dojo right behind the tower. In the stagnant air of silence, their sounds are particularly sonorous.” In the margins are written “Excerpt from the opening passage of Ba Jiao Ta Xia,” “New Year 2005 draft,” and “Inscription by Chung Chao-cheng.” The calligrapher’s seal is affixed.
