Description:In 1970 Lin Hengtai stopped writing poetry because of a flare up of chronic nephritis and not until 1972—after having ceased creative work twice in ten years—did he start up once again, finishing a limited but brilliant number of pieces, “Dirty Face” can be considered a representative example. This poem was published on April 15, 1972, in Bamboo Hat Poetry, No. 48. Subsequently in 1990 it was included in the poetry collection As Unavoidable as History (Taipei: Shang Shu Culture), in which Lin adopted a totally unanticipated point of view to criticize the apathy and callous indifference to a changing world, the collapse of ideals and absolute impoverishment. This was a much talked-about collection and from it we can see that after the decades of the 70s the poet was actively in step with the spirit and attitude of critical realism.

其他說明:1970年，林亨泰因慢性腎臟炎發作而中輟寫詩，直到1972年──二度停止創作十年後──才再次出發，完成數量有限但質地精闢的作品，〈弄髒了的臉〉即堪稱代表作之一。這首詩發表於1972年4月15日《笠詩刊》48期，後收錄於1990年出版的詩集《跨不過的歷史》（台北：尚書文化）；以出人意表的特殊視角批判那些對於世事變化、理想墮落以及純淨蒙塵等不幸均無動於衷的冷漠人心，是一首傳誦頗廣的名篇；從中也可以看到詩人自七○年代之後，更積極介入現實批判的精神與態度。
