Description:This archived collection of artefacts includes a book-cover page, four sheets of handwritten manuscript, and four pages of illustrations from Forumosa [“Formosa Magazine”]. All four manuscript pages contain incomplete articles, three of which are roughly identical in content with slight revisions. In them, Mitsuru NISHIKAWA gives an account of his reflections on a few of Yoshisaburo SHIOJI’s works. Considering them to be above the amateur level, he invited Mr. Shioji to publish a poetry collection (Boy Reborn) under his actual name. After reading the copyedited draft sent by Shioji’s wife, Nishikawa praised the book’s romantic style in a meticulous form, and the humorous epilogue. Impressed by the volume’s high quality, Nishikawa invited Shioji to meet in person for the first time, during which Shioji reminisced about his childhood when he had saved up his pocket money to buy Nishikawa’s poetry collection Mazu Festival and had on several occasions come to Nishikawa’s doorstep but had lacked the courage to knock on his door. The pair was happily immersed in conversation and wound up feeling rejuvenated. Just as the collection’s title suggests, they were two boys reborn. The four pages of illustrations contain:

Page 2: Six pictures of the Gentlemen’s Alley, an illustration of a religious ritual, two hand drawings of Taiwanese customs (one of which may have been featured on the cover page or as an illustration in Nishikawa’s poetry collection Opium), and two children’s paintings
Page 3: A paper cutout of the Chinese character fu (blessing) and the silhouette of a building
Page 4: Two hand drawings, Chishan Hunting After the Autumn Harvest (possibly from Lu Ding-mei and Wang Bi-chang’s Taiwan Prefectural Accounts: New Edition (1752) and a nude woman painting.

摘要:本筆資料包含《華麗島讚歌》裝幀書封面、文字手稿四頁、圖像頁四頁。內容分述如下：文字手稿部分，四頁皆為殘篇，其中三頁為內容大致相同的修改稿，西川滿敘述他讀過幾篇潮地先生（潮地悅三郎）的作品，覺得已超過業餘水平，因此建議他以本名出版詩集。後來收到潮地夫人寄來的詩集《少年再生》校正版，西川讚賞該書作品風格浪漫，形式工整巧妙，且〈後記〉幽默，整體製作很用心。其後首次與潮地見面，聽他回憶少年時期以零用金購讀西川的《媽祖祭》詩集，甚至曾來到西川家門口，後來感到卻步，便默默返家。兩人聊往事聊得忘記時間，宛如《少年再生》的書名般重返青春。圖像頁共四部分：首先為港邊風景的手繪圖，署名「M.KITAHARA」，應為北原正吉；其次，六張圖像：摸乳巷照片、宗教圖、二張台灣民俗手繪圖，其一疑為西川滿著作《亞片》的封面或插圖、二幅兒童繪畫作品；第三部分為二張剪紙圖：「福」字花樣圖、建築圖；第四部分為手繪圖，其一為「旗尾秋蒐」，此圖疑出自鲁鼎梅、王必昌《重修台灣縣志》（1752）的臺邑八景，其二為裸女圖。（文／許倍榕）
